Tips for starting Nursery

 

Starting Nursery school can be tough.  A new environment, new people and separating from parents/carers – although separation may be harder for you than it is for your child! Here are a few tips.

 

  • Visit the Nursery with your child before he/she starts.

 

  • Talk about starting Nursery and what to expect. Focus on the positives.

 

  • Help your child to develop new skills such as using the toilet and putting his/her jacket on.

 

  • Dress your child in comfortable clothes that can be easily managed when going to the toilet.

 

  • Your child will get dirty so old clothes are best. Label all clothes.

 

  • On the first day introduce your child to his/her key worker and say goodbye when you leave – don’t just disappear!

 

Remember, some children settle quicker than others.

Be prepared to stay for the 1st session and don’t

expect your child to stay for the whole session

when you first leave him/her.

 

The key worker is there to help so if you have

any questions or concerns, please ask.
