Dads

Research shows that involved dads help children develop:

  • Better friendships
  • Fewer behavourial problems
  • Better educational outcomes
  • Capacity for empathy
  • Higher self esteem and life-satisfaction
  • Lower criminality and substance abuse
  • More satisfying adult partnerships

However, although dads want to play a part in their children’s lives they can sometimes feel ‘out of place’ and ‘on show’ when they attend family services mostly used by women, or simply feel that the service is not really for them.

Some fathers can feel unconfident as parents, and think that looking after children – especially younger ones – is in some way ‘women’s business’.

To ensure all dads feel welcome our Dad’s club will be run by staff who are able to develop a rapport with men as well as with children.

Welcome to Ridgeway Park Dad's Club

Who Let the Dad’s In!

Ridgeway Park Children Centre aims to be a place in which everyone is free to join in and become a part of the centre. To achieve this we have set up a Dad’s Club running every Saturday morning between 10.00am – 12.00am, starting from Saturday 9 February.

This programme is partially funded by Parent, Early Years and Learning (PEAL) which is supported by the Department for Children, Schools and Families as part of the Early Learning Partnerships.

We feel it is important to provide a Dad’s group where all male carers and their children can visit a fun and welcoming environment that provides a mix of group and one-to-one support.

Along with café facilities, there is a range of activities such as table football, table tennis, Scalextrix and a choice of toys for the younger children.

The centre is thrilled to announce that we have appointed Frank Charles to run the group.  As well as being a dad, Charles works as a Waltham Forest street warden, previously he has worked as a social workers and youth worker.

Charles is dedicated to supporting the local community from coaching a local football team to entertaining elderly care home residents with his juggling skills and talent for singing.

These experiences and dedication to his job led to Charles winning the National Frontline Worker award and being named Public Finance Outstanding Public Servant of 2007.  A great honour when you consider that there are 4 million public sector workers that are eligible to enter!

If you interested to know more about the Dad’s club or other events at the centre please phone our office on 0208 529 3885.
